DJ Cleo in trouble

DJ Cleo - Gallo ImagesDJ Cleo is one of SA’s shining stars, but he is in trouble for using someone else’s song in one of his latest remixes.
The prolific record producer has been accused of stealing a song written by the late Obed Ngubeni, which was sung by Mahlathini.
Ngubeni’s son Christopher is the accuser, and he says DJ Cleo used the song without giving credit to his father and West Nkosi.
The song was used in Cleo’s remix “Hip Hop Hooray”, which uses “Gazette” in the tunes.
Ngubeni’s lawyer told SundayWorld that Cleo and his lawyer Graham Gilfillan used the song despite being told they shouldn’t by Gallo Music. Cleo also apparently “allocated himself a 25% share of the song, even though they were told that this was illegal.
