UN Declares Internet Access A Human Right – A United Nations report said Friday that disconnecting people from the internet is a human rights violation and against international law. The report railed against France and the United Kingdom, which have passed laws to remove accused copyright scofflaws from the internet. It also protested blocking internet access to quell political unrest. [wired]

Nadal Equals Borg French Open Record – Rafael Nadal said he is honoured to be compared to Bjorn Borg after equalling the Swede’s record of six French Open titles with victory over Roger Federer. Nadal won 7-5 7-6 (7-3) 5-7 6-1 to claim his 10th Grand Slam and retain the world number one ranking. Li Na Is Asia’s First Grand Slam Winner - China’s Li Na defeated Francesca Schiavone to become the first player from Asia to win a Grand Slam event. Al Qaida Leader Killed By US Drone - Ilyas Kashmiri, a top Pakistani militant and senior Al Qaeda operative, reportedly has been killed in a US drone strike in the tribal territory of South Waziristan. Kashmiri is believed to be behind some of the deadliest attacks in India and Pakistan, including a 2009 suicide attack on Pakistan’s spy agency and attacks on US forces in Afghanistan. [csmonitor]

A teenage girl in Germany who forgot to mark her birthday invitation as private on Facebook fled her own party when more than 1,500 guests showed up and around 100 police officers, some on horses, were needed to keep the crowd under control. Hackers Attack Nintendo - Nintendo Co. said Sunday that a server for its U.S. unit’s website had been hacked but no company or customer information was compromised, marking the first time the Japanese gaming giant has been targeted in recent global hacking attacks. The Nintendo breach is less severe than the hacker attacks on rival Sony Corp.’s PlayStation Network.
