ANCYL Promises Disciplined Supporters Ahead Of Malema Trial

ANCYL Promises Disciplined Supporters Ahead Of Malema Trial

Hundreds of people have been gathering this morning outside the ANC Youth League headquarters in Johannesburg, following the league’s promise that supporters would behave well in the lead up to Julius Malema’s disciplinary hearing.  Rubber bullets have already been used by police to contain the crowd.  Twitter is alive with reports of violence and mayhem going down.
A tweet by journalist Cedric Mboyisa earlier said, “Police are now firing rubber bullets.  It’s war out here.  A bottle just missed me.”
Meanwhile, chairperson of the ANCYL’s Tsakane branch, Thepelo Khumalo, said in advance, “We will not cause confrontation with police…we are staying together united and disciplined.  We are not going to break anything”.
League members converging around Thelepo said they did not believe that Zuma was going against Malema, in spite of the charges brought against him and Floyd Shivambu.  Nevertheless, there are clearly some very disgruntled supporters out there.  And this picture, tweeted by Mboyisa (@SApolitics1), shows Juju supporters burning an ANC T-shirt featuring Zuma’s face.
