“Millionaires Club” Advocates Case Commences Today

“Millionaires Club” Advocates Case Commences Today

In what has been deemed a landmark case starting today in the North Gauteng High Court, 13 advocates face being struck off the roll for allegedly sucking the Road Accident Fund dry through dodgy billing practices.
The group of lawyers, named the “Millionaires Club”, has been identified for double briefing and charging multiple fees from the RAF.  They include two senior counsel, one of whom has allegedly charged R11 million in legal fees in a ten-month period for close to 1,000 trials. That’s pretty phenomenal.
While the Pretoria Bar has already suspended and fined the errant members, many are calling for the Millionaires Club to be struck off the roll. The rather juicy case which got underway this morning will investigate the legal fraternity’s ability to self-regulate.
